i thought jackman had a excellent game for the gills against chesterfield, his crossing was of beckham style quality, now we know why he is decent player and northampton could not hold on to him, if he keeps playing like that he will surely cement a place for himself in the team, pity whelpdale was not still here i could picture him getting on the end of jackmans delicious crosses.
the gills played well against a well organised and tall chesterfield side. on this kind of performance i am sure we will make the play-offs, but with players like julians, fuller, gowling and nutter, who are the teams weak links ( nutter especially is a poor player ). automatic may just be a step too far, i sincerely hope not.
i am a mad gills fan, but cannot help think the above weak links are drawbacks. hope hessie has noted this.
up the gills !!!

Gowling has been one of our best players since he got back from Lincoln........
Most supporters rave about how solid our defence has generally looked this season, and all the players are defenders....
All the players are Stimson signings.... From memory, you really really dislike Stimson......

I agree that Julian is not good enough and I don't think ever will be. I'm not a fan of Nutter and if he is up against a right midfielder who can head the ball then Nutter struggles but he has played well the last few games. Fuller, although limited, is playing well and found a bit of form. Gowling can be a very good player but suffers from inconsistency but since he has returned from Lincoln has been consistent and has played very well. When Payne is fit Jackman or Maher will miss out which will be wrong because they both deserve to play. Gills good form coincided with Paynes injury and for Maher to lose his place for him would be sad. I'd play Jackman down the left and get rid of Weston if Hess has to bring Payne back.

From memory, you really really dislike Stimson...... Oh dear, I'm sorry but Julian, Fuller and Nutter are just about adequate at this level. I haven't been a fan of any of them and have posted my worries about them many times on this site. I will be amazed if any of them will feature in Hess's plans next season. Julian in particular is the worst Keeper In the 50 years since I've been attending the Gills. I know Johnknee that you are desperate to try and convince us that Stimson was the best manager of all time, but you're wrong. One things for sure you won't ever convince me.

'' Julian worst goalkeeper in 50 years of supporting The Gills''
Are you serious? Never heard anything so ridiculous!
Mervyn Cawston, Kelvin Jack, Tony Bullock, Bob Tooze, Martin Hodge, Steve Wheatley were worse than Julian,

'' Julian worst goalkeeper in 50 years of supporting The Gills'' Are you serious? Never heard anything so ridiculous! Mervyn Cawston, Kelvin Jack, Tony Bullock, Bob Tooze, Martin Hodge, Steve Wheatley were worse than Julian, Goodness me, your picky, I can't ever remember them playing on a regular basis. Or being the number one keeper on the books. Although, I can remember, Simpson, Hillyard, Bartram, Stannard, Banks, Brown, Royce., and other on loan keepers better than Julian. I am entitled to my opinion and I'm sorry but I don't rate Julian. He will eventually cost us 10 points this season. Anyway, I didn't know I had to compare Julian with every player who ever put on a Gills Jersey. However, I would like to know how many games Bob Tooze played.

Granted Julian has made mistakes and i'm sure he will be the first to acknowledge that however he has also kept us in many games this season, including the torquay game at the weekend. It was a poor mistake by Julian but everyone seems to have forgotten the goal was actually really fullers fault.

I know Johnknee that you are desperate to try and convince us that Stimson was the best manager of all time, but you're wrong. One things for sure you won't ever convince me. I wasn't going to try to convince anyone he was the best manager of all time as I don't rate him that highly. I am just not convinced he was the worse manager we have ever had. And my "all the players were Stimson's signings" jibe was more tongue in check reference to the Gillingham supporters who slag off all of Stimson's signings because "Stimson only ever signed non-league players". Some of the players being slagged off wouldn't have been if they had been signed by someone else. Stimson did make some bad signings, but we are critisising players who were good enough to get us promoted last time.

I'm not on a Julian witchhunt as some of the criticism has been well OTT. Worst keeper in 50 years? Harvey Lim, Bertrand Bossu from recent memory? However, Julian wasnt part of the side who got us up before - that was Royce who was outstanding that season. Julian isn't in the class of most of the keeper's we've been lucky enough to have at our club. He does cost us points and does make mistakes as do Fuller, Nutter and Gowling. Gowling's positioning for the 2nd goal the other night was dire. He was 5 years behind the defence and then lacked the pace to recover. Wasn't helped by Julian coming out early and giving their striker an easy angle though.

While I agree Julian is a poor goalkeeper at this level we have had worse Bullock for one without any dout. Kelvin Jack will without a dout go down as the biggest waste of money in goal. It has to be remembered that Julian would be on very low wages which would allow hess to spend more on other areas. For example had we kept Royce we may not have been able to afford Cody or Bayo's wages and we would then have had to use Steffan Payne more etc .Is it a price worth paying? Hess has I believe tried to balance the books by using cheap players to finance higher earners. The only other way round the problem is no high earners(star strikers etc). The answer is I hope coming in the shape of a ever improving youth set up if we can get enough quality there things will get easier long term.
