Without doubt a worthy winner, however what was a little disappointing was that the nominations were on the whole attackers, and I would like to see recognition given to others e.g. Chesterfield keeper Tommy Lee who has been fantastic whenever I have seen him

It is unfortunate but all to often it is the goal makers/getters who receive the recognition, but must agree there are many worthy defenders/keepers who never get a look in.

Should have been Kevin Maher. His consistancy since November has been first class

It should have been but I don't even think we voted him as a player of the month but have managed to 'boo' the odd wayward pass or a 'hoofball' into the corners!! The FA have obviously noted our upturn in form and our impressive winning run in December which strangely coincided with Mahers regular inclusion in the team! But as you say he doesn't score so has no chance....

The way things are my guess is that if you asked every footy fan their favorite player at least half would go for a forward or winger.

The reason why they tend to go for attacking players is that goals scored and assists are a lot easy to quantify than "how many key tackles did that defender make?"....

Think the media plays a big part in that scenario, ie Rooney's recent goal from the overhead kick and its subsequent publicity, whilst cannot deny that it was a spectacular goal, was it really that much better than many similar goals that pass without or with very little mention.
