Both of the above are fair points, absolutely, but I still stand by my original views that a 1-0 defeat does not mean a 9/10 performance from the manager or that he got his game plan 'spot on'. Those are both staggering points of view IMO.
Yes, our defence is better. Yes, our midfield is better. Our attack is miles worse, but all the blinkered Hessenthaler lovers will never dare come out and say that, will they? Again, lots of you are seemingly happy with the increased card count and the arguing every decision. In the long run, both of those will actually end up causing far more harm than good, but the blinkers are on again because it's Hessenthaler. If he hadn't played for us, most of you would hate this Gills side like you hate Stimson and his.
I so hope I'm proven wrong at the end of this season, but right now I've still not heard much that's got me believing we will be promoted.
Really can't be arsed with this anymore at the moment, it's like talking to a Hessenthaler-loving brick wall. I can see when others make decent points in his favour, but none of you are prepared to accept criticism of him in any way at all. This isn't me getting in a paddy and storming off, but I have a busy weekend which I will be spending with people capable of rational thought and able to see both sides of everything in life, so I won't be about. I may not be back, especially if we get another 'spot on game plan 9/10 for Hess' defeat at the weekend. But, hey, you'll all be thrilled with that... Just like last season when on the second day we drew at Hereford and left the field to a huge ovation and some cretin on here defended it as a fantastic result... Good job we didn't miss out on the play-offs by a narrow margin last term in the end...
With any luck, if I do return, it will be with my tail firmly between my legs.
Until then, Adios and Up the Gills.

Don't bother coming back then because you're just being negative and I am definately not a hess lover but you have to give credit where credit is due but becuase you don't like him, it appears you will not give him credit for a proud performance.
I actually was calling for hess to go after the Dover game last year but now I am very supportive as I can see where he is taking the football club and part of this credit should lie with Mr Scally.
Hessenthaler was also very good in his post match interview by saying that Payne should have been sent off and not many managers will openly admit that their players should have been sent off and label it as a huge mistake by the ref. Most will say, "the ref has made his decision so move on"

Good job we didn't miss out on the play-offs by a narrow margin last term in the end... With any luck, if I do return, it will be with my tail firmly between my legs. Until then, Adios and Up the Gills. Firstly, I never wanted Hessenthaler back and went on the record as to say that I thought it was a poor decision by Scally because I don't think he is a good enough manager. Secondly, I also called for his head after Dover because quite simply our performances up until then were abysmal. Hence, I cannot be called a Hessenthaler lover in any way at all, and I accept that he has many faults (e.g., He plays Spiller way more than he should do and in the past year has underused Weston. ). I was also one of the fans who backed Stimson, up until the Tranmere game. Therefore I don't hate Stimson's side at all, in fact I think he is a better manager than 99% of Gills fans think. I just base my opinions of what I see, and on Tuesday night I saw a tremendous tactical, defensive display by Hessenthaler's team that very nearly saw us through to the Second Round. It wasn't perfect, there were a few too many Yellows as I said and our attacking Set Pieces need work, however I give huge Credit to Hessenthaler for sorting out the defensive shape to our team so very effectively. Lastly, I'm not going to Crewe so won't be commenting on his game plan, hence there will be no mark our of 10. However I do think that this game could bring out the best in us, being away to a side that has been known to buckle under the pressure we will put them under.

I saw the Brighton game, having missed all the others, including pre-season. I sat with the Brighton fans for 2 reasons (the performance in getting a ticket pre-match - is this policy really necessary? and he fact that I was going to see the game with an ex-Uni mate of mine, who numbers Brighton amongst his favourite teams , but as he is in the Met, leave was, predictably, cancelled. I had a fantastic view on the half way line near the half way line.
The West stand, and the noise the home fans make, and the view of the South Downs peeping cheekily through the gap between East and North stands(unless it invokes exhausting memories of Ditchling Beacon on the London-Brighton bike ride!) are very impressive. Interesting to hear about the acoustics - I didn't hear much noise from the Gills fans -but then that happens at certain grounds. The other 3 stands seem to be adequate, in the 'Reebox Stadium' mode- but have plenty of potential for expansion if Brighton establish themselves as a Championship side.
I was impressed with the Gills overall. Hess seems to have worked on the defensive side of the game. Flitney looked assured, there will be more steel in the defence - both verbally and in the tackle, and the midfield will probably be our strength this season. We played some good passing football in the first 3/4 of the game, looked strong, but not dirty until losing our discipline at the end (only 2 bookings up to the penalty!) Hess has done well (I'm not going to get involved in the argument about whether he deserved a 7 or a 9). Whether we can translate this promise depends on 3 things:
1 Whether Kedwell will get more support up front (I think it i only a question of time before he opens his account - it took McDonald 5 games to get off the mark!). With Birchall out for most of the season, our other 3 forwards really need to impress this season as they will not all be there next season unless they do. To date they have suffered from illness or over-zealous tackles.
2 Keeping our disciplinary record under check. We are likely to be unpopular to play against for which a poor disciplonary record is part of the territory, but self disipline is even more important to avoid a highish card count becoming very noticeable and out of control.
3 Hess will still need to adapt, both in terms of tactics and personnel.
Here's hoping for at least 4 poojnts from Crewe and Barnet, as last season, and on;ly a handful of bookings from the games.
