I'm looking forward to and feel optimistic about the new season. I think there have been some very good and interesting signings.
Now, without putting a damper on my positive thoughts, this is a very young squad. The youngest I can remember, maybe the youngest first team squad ever?. I'm sure somebody will know the answer to that question. These players will need a lot of support and Gillingham supporters are not know for their tolerance. They will take time to settle and have the bad games which could cost the team points. Last year the supporters started getting on the back of Doug Loft and it was shameful. These young players will need the experience of the senior players like Doug Loft. The last thing the team need during the coming season is intolerance from the supporters, even though a small minority.
So, lets get behind these young players and hopefully they will have a great season.
Up the Gills.

But if is isn't it is certainly our most promising side by a long way. Credit to Scally as I am sure now it was he who has found the formula which can bring long term success and security. These lads certainty are hungry and while looking totally agree there will be bad days. The defence as a team still needs a ton of work. I am confident that we can at very least enjoy this coming season. I have bags of confidence that this season is going to be a lot of fun. That in itself should help the mood of those who doubt and are always ready to jump on the least mistake. The younger side is also likely to have greater appeal so one hopes that we will get a few more new faces through the gate.

This is why I’m a little cautious of hyping up our chances this season. A lot will depend on how we get on in August. We have some really tough games in the opening month, and probably our easiest chance of a positive result will be at Vale Park.
A bad start to the campaign, and with the supporters on their back, the young squad could easily get demoralised. Then they get into the losing mentality… and we’ve all been there before!
Hence why I will be very happy if we obtain 6/7 points from out opening 5 games, and I’m hoping other supporters will realise this as well. Then we can push onwards and upwards from there, although I still believe a top 10 finish will be the best we can achieve.
All I want this season is some good entertainment and value for money, and build on that for next season and beyond.

Well said greyfox. I'm pleased with the business we've done and feel we've had some excellent signings, but I don't believe this season will be easy and I still feel we are 2-3 years away from challenging higher up the league. A similar finish to last season would be decent in my view

A very tough league IMO, but I believe after a few games we will find out feet and JE will have a better understanding of who/what his best team is. Don't Beleive we will be fighting for automatic promotion, but play off place is a good possibility. As others my vocal support will be there whatever and let's all hope for an enjoyable and entertaining season. COYG

Personally I think a Play-Off position is a realistic expectation for this season. I have bought a Season Ticket and looking forward to a win in our first game.I am also hoping the fans turn up in great numbers to cheer this young team on. Can't wait.

I agree with all the comments above as I consider we have an exciting set of young players who will react to good support by putting everything into getting good results. They should also enjoy one-anothers company with the resultant happy dressing room and high team spirit. Roll on August 8th.

I was told by a very good source inside the camp that since Justin arrived the training ground is happier than it has been at any time since this person arrived at Priestfield which is a fair number of years.

Always good to read comments like that stato, now hope that team spirit can be transferred to the pitch.
