Shortly before his mother died, she told him he was adopted and was not Irish.
He told Mick McCarthy and asked him what he should do.
McCarthy told him to keep his mouth shut.

That was a "scandal" invented to sell his book jockmcgill. It made no difference to his eligability, his adoptive family's background (grandmother?) made him eligible in exactly the same way it would have done if they were is birth family.

Very ineresting read as usual, bought back a few memories as I lived in the village of Crockenhill when Tony played for them and on occasions saw the "Crocks" in our local The Chequers after their training sessions.Cyril Nichols Crocks Chairman often being critised (in retrospect) for the "cheapness" of the sale. True or false I would not know but the story of him being ineligible is certainly contained in his autobiography.
