Lovell’s latest comment re ’It was a mistake playing Darren Oldaker” just goes to illustrate that once again he shows his worrying limitations of being a competent manager and motivator. www.kentonline.co.uk/medway/sport/lovell-playing-dj-was-a-mistake-200671/Anyone with the basic rudimentary knowledge of GFC, or football in general, would have realised that the Gills midfield against Bristol Rovers was poor selection and woefully inadequate for the purpose of penetrating a poor Rover’s side all within ten minutes of the start. Lovell’s error was ‘freshening’ up the team because they were ‘tired and jaded’ in the previous encounter. If professional footballers cannot play twice in one week it must be a poor indictment for signing them in the first place and their ability to mentally absorb pressure. Lovell’s coaching and motivation ability must also be called into question. However to be fair, this is possibly not true in GFC but Lovell obviously overthought the problem and then believed his own hype. Not sure what Lovell achieves by his comments re Oldaker and Lopes as it certainly doesn’t placate the majority of supporters and will only discourage, plus deflate, the players publicly denigrated for their performance. Certainly this is an unusual and naive management motivation technique and obviously not to be recommended. Supporters do not want to hear the workings of Lovell’s footballing brain on his selection methods, which mostly defy logic at the best of times. What supporters do want are the basics observed such as keeping winning formations and tactics plus any mistakes rectified quickly on the field of play.

His man management skills are woeful.

Yup, he’s made himself look awful again. I can’t see what calling out a young player is going to do. Oldaker was awful, but no worse than Reilly or Charles-Cook, for that matter. To defend Oldaker, he’s not been in the team for 3 games and not in the squad for 2 games so I assume he’s been given a start and then feels he really needs to put a marker down or he’ll be out again. There were clear signs his mind wasn’t in the right place and he was over trying. That falls firmly at Lovell’s door in my view. His man management of Oldaker, especially, has been shocking

From what I remember their goal came directly from a long pump up field by Ehmer. Instead he could have taken a moment, controlled the ball and passed into midfield. But no, it came straight back and they scored. Yes, a great strike and goal, but come on, How Oldaker was to blame is beyond me!

No wonder crowds are down at home games.
Thank god he won't be here next season.
Those post match comments are very poor coming from somebody who has no longevity at our club.

Lovell's arrogance seems to have come and reared its ugly head again.
It tells us how poor Lovell's management crudentials are and his management of players, by saying what he has said does not help the player, but put added pressure on him to perform in his next game.
All change in the summer !!!
Manager out first !!!

Disagree greyfox, DJ sold himself and virtually run past their player whilst attempting to block tackle. As a sitting midfielder that is a big no no and their player then just run past as DJ was the wrong side. From DJs body language straight after it was in the net, it was clear he knew he’d messed up.

bluegill..cannot agree with your comments.
Once again Lovell has highlighted a player in a bad way and mentioning that DJ maybe should not have been involved in the Bristol game, so if DJ scored the winner then it would have been a masterstroke by SL.
Can you understand why so may fans dislike our managers accountability and conduct when it comes to protecting players and especially the young ones like List.
In my book Lovell's tenure has run its course, his ability as a manager or head coach is no better than Adrian Pennock.
Only foolish fans would want Lovell to be here next season after what we have witnessed this season.

jr...speculate to accumulate. That is the only way forward. Something that has not been in Scally's remit for quiet a few years now. The dross being served by the club is shameful and attendances at home matches have reflected how poor we are and there is no getting away from that fact. Too lose 10 games at home during a season is unacceptable and most teams with that amount of defeats would be fighting relegation. The Bristol Rovers defeat was a massive blow and like a six pointer. After losing to Luton this weekend. The pressure is well and truly on us afterwards. It will be a battle and its 50 50 if Lovell has the credentials to keep us up.
Whatever happens until the end of this current campaign.
Lovell will not be here for 2019 / 2020.
