My player ratings would be.
Flitney-7 looked good rushing out at opponents feet just feel kicking and coming for the ball should be better.
Martin- 9 my man of the match I know it sounds silly but done everything right today and looked good.
Fuller-7 another good display always wears his heart on his sleeve
Frampton-7 very strong and a great talker could the lack of pace be his un-doing
Lawerence- 7 great partnership with frampton looks solid.
Spiller-6 looked bright won alot of headers for a small guy just did not know when to join attack.
Payne-7 would have been an 8 but got caught in possession a few times but he was so effective at breaking Cheltenham attack down.
Lee-5 I think this bloke is gills best player but today apart from a few crushing tackles was not in the game.
Montrose- 6 got the goal but where was the energy from the pre-season gone.
Whelphdale-7 looked good cutting in onto his left foot tired towards the end.
Kedwell-6 needs a partner if he is gonna punish defenders with his strengh done a few good things just had no support.
Subs: Rooney-6 looked bright and sharp if it was a sending off then there should be 4 every game
Weston-7 looked very bright created more chances when he came on than we did for the whole game before he came on.

Flitney-6-looked shaky when crosses came in, poor kicking Fuller-7-decent enough Martin-9-easily MOM Frampton-6.5-defended okish, poor distribution Lawrence-7-ok Spiller-7-was ok,didn't deserve to be taken off Whelpdale-6- Was disappointing Lee-6-as above Montrose-6-good goal, got in a couple of good areas but went missing a lot Payne-5- Our 3rd centre half is too slow with the ball and got caught with it quite a few times Kedwell-8-A good shift with absolutely no help, very good 2nd half subs Weston-7-Hess will have some thinking if Weston plays like this, I'm one of his most negative posters but I was pleased for him as he has the ability lets hope he grows a heart as he could really shine Rooney-0-A pointless and blatant sending off from a pointless player. Looked good against Ashford though!

Very harsh on Rooney, I thought he had looked bright before the red card, one jinking run down the left, then another when he was through before being blatantly body checked by their player which got their defender booked. For the sending off it was a silly tackle, over-stretching to get the ball when there was no need, but I felt the red was given more because of the way the Cheltenham players reacted to the incident.

If that was a Cheltenham play, the whole of the Rainham end would have said blatant yellow.
That type of tackle is in referees terms an "amber" card so Rooney gave the ref a decision to make.
Also, if you go in with two feet then you are losing control of your body which will often end up in a red just because of the consequences that may have occured.
As for the ref in general, he will learn so much from his first game and he should have stamped out dissent early by booking lawrence because he was in his ear from the start. He didn't so the players got on top of him a bit and it was laughable really because frampton and lawrence were basically reffing the game! Also, if he gave a decision, I feel he was slightly intimated so resulted in giving us a "soft foul" after controversial decisions.
Anyway, great win, nice 3 points and we do look very solid. UTG!

Flitney 7 - Not much to do in terms of shot stopping, but kicking is good and looks better than Julian was Fuller 8 - Handled their best player Kaid Mohamed very well and got forward too. Looks at if the loss of the captaincy and made him focus on his game more Lawrence 7 - Moaned at the ref a bit too much for my liking but was as dependable as ever Frampton 8 - Quality signing, captain material talking a couple of players out of cautions. Solid, passionate and reliable. Martin 9 (MOM) - Excellent game and looks a completely different player to last season now he has a full pre-season under his belt. The goal came from his run, and defensively he dealt with the very tricky Low extremely effectively J.Payne 7 - Did his job well and showed good tackling and passing ability Montrose 7 - Apart from the goal he was quiet and I felt he needed to offer more support to Kedwell. However, he looks a handy player Lee 7 - Excellent tackling and got stuck in well. Whelpdale 6 - Quite quiet today, mainly because I thought that he did not play wide enough to get the best out of him. Spiller 7.5 - First half he was lively and creativ, but he could have stayed wider more often Kedwell 8 - I think he will be a very good signing, mobile and holds the ball up well despite little or no help at times.
Subs: Rooney 2 - Always a problem if you play on the left with no left foot. Furthermore, a silly tackle to make because it gave the ref a reason to send him off, however what concerns me more is the fact that he was central in the first place. FRom the original throw on the right he should never have made himself available, rather have held his position instead. He certainly has potential, but he really needs to use his head more to progress further. Weston 8 - Desperately unlucky not to start and looked very busy when he came on, going close twice.
Referee Collins 5 - On his Football League debut he was certainly not the worst we have seen, correctly identyiying most incidents correctly. However I would have liked to see him be firmer with Gillingham's dissent, especially from Lee and especially Lawrence as that could have avoided some of the flashing points later in the game. With a incident like Rooney's sending off, well the tackle looked what refs like to call an 'amber card' and with a ref eager to impress on his FL debut, I have no issue with him issueing a red even if it was not necessarily straight forward. However the incident would be more a criticism of Rooney for not knowing his referee well enough.

Not sure how an inexperienced player can "know" his inexperienced referee, certainly do hope the ref. learnt from his league debut as I felt he was very inconsistent, allowing far too many infringements by Spencer to go unchecked, then straight red for Rooney, albeit an amber, am convinced the Cheltenham reaction earned Rooney his red as much as Rooney's own action.

Has Luke Rooney done something to you that we don`t know about Superblues to offend you as your recent comments about him are coming across as very strange? That aside an okay performance but it was clear Kedwell, who was very good, needs either a striker to playalong side him or Weston has to start and support him, a good three points and plenty of positives to take into the next few games, cmon u Gills!

He has done nothing to offend me and when I see him have a good game against league opposition I will be on here giving him a good mark. At the moment I can't remember him having a good game against league opposition.... the only positive for me about Rooney is that he does continually want the ball which is a good thing. But to see see a player skipping about to avoid making a tackle and ducking under balls in the air so he doesn't have to header it is criminal at this level. And as for it being an 'amber' card!!! no way, people will be on here later after seeing a video footage and say it was a blatant sending off. Ultimately it was 3 points and a welcome win....I was disappointed by the performance and wonder if Payne and Lee will be able to play together....much like Payne and Maher couldn't last year. UTG

Agree with superblues. Rooney should have been over the other side of the pitch, not coming across to receive the ball from Fuller. This is his problem . He just wants to chase the ball all over the pitch. I despair of Hess ever managing to get much out of him. His passing for the short time he was on,was diabolical. I don't think he once found a blue shirt, and Cheltenham found him easy to deal with, apart from the one time when he collected an excellent throw from Flitney, when for once he was in his correct position, and then hacked down.

After watching the replay, I fully agree with the red card and he deservered to get sent off. From my angle I thought it was touch and go but clearly it was worse.

I think it's only jaggy who's bothered about that ;D ;D I've got no interest in that either.....it was only as I recently read Jaggy's comments(and totally agreed) about getting negative karma because people didn't agree with his opinions and thought 'surely if people don't agree with other peoples opinions they can't be sad enough to adjust the karma rating?' but then again.....

No, I'm not bothered, just, as superblues says, find it laughable that because I don't sit here and proclaim Hessenthaler as the best manager in the world ever who has built a squad which will win League Two by 50 points or whatever that people are so worked up they click on something to give me a negative score. Which is of no relevance whatsoever.
If I could be bothered/was a complete loser, what score would swansgills and swanleygills have between them?!

I'm only joking mate. Notice my karma has gone to minus 2 since yesterday so I've obviously upset someone as well. Maybe someone didn't like the fact I said we'd got no chance of signing Cody or maybe it was me ranting about fans getting on the players back? Who cares? I'll go for -3 now. The moaning at Flitney when he miskicked a clearance in front of the Rainham End yesterday was pathetic. Some people are desperate for him to fail
