The thing with football is that people want to support a successful side. I class myself as hard-core having seen over 1000 matches since the late 80s when we were not very good. Back then we had a hard-core of 2500 supporters that was dwindling each season. The take over and subsequent success raised gates and now I'd say our hard-core is 3.5-4k. If we start winning games again our gates will go back to 6-7k. Fancy football is for when you are in the prem, the Galinsons are talking a very good game and surely know that we have to go up, but this can only be done with a side that makes winning a habit and with that you need good players. Seeing Dennis Bailey reminded me of what it was like to sign a marque player. The late 90s we had an embarrassment of riches and strengthened by signing paul shaw, chris hope and a sought after Marlon king. 2009 we had King and Jackson and by signing Barrett and Burton in 2013 showed we meant business. While we have signed some decent players we are still lacking that marquee signing to make the players and supporters feel serious about promotion(not Dack sadly it seems) and it will be harder to do so in January.
