Jolly I do agree with you that we should be better than yeovil and colchester. The standards at this club have dropped to a unacceptable level. I have monitored the progress of the young players like Norris and dickenson who I would give each 5 out of ten. I don't think personally they will be good enough next season for league one and if we stayed up this season, can u honestly see them leading the attack. I don't think they have the necessary quality, so how long do we wait for then to flourish , give them another one and a half seasons to prove that they are good players. I just don't see it happening.
How long is a piece of rope ?? Taylor using this form of deception to safeguard himself from the bullet and if he gets the sack he will say, if only I these young players for another season they would have proved to be decent prospects.
I have not seen enough to convince me there has been any such progress.

It seems to me that an out and out goalscorer is vital for Gills to escape relegation, yes i know they are difficult to find, But surely with PT connections in a 40+ year football career he must be able to find a player that can score 10-15 goals in the 2nd half of the season. I have been following and supporting GFC since the late 1960s and remember the signing of players like Peter Feely, Tony Funnell and Danny Westwood who did come to club and hit the ground running. Unfortunately despite his backing of PT, Scally will sack him some time soon because he backs every manager he has had saying how wonderful they are, only to fall out with them rapidly. It will be the timing of his departure that will define Gills season. If he holds onto him now PT must prove his worth in January with astute signings,if not they will struggle. Sorry for harking back to the old days but older fans will remember the immediate impact those players i mentioned made and how it lifted the fans and made it a more exciting place to go. Up the Gills!

Agree 100% with muppet. If we were in our current position with a load of journeymen playing hoofball, I'd expect PT to have been sacked. I'm glad the club are trying something else.
Swansgills, can understand why you are calling for some experienced lads to sign and it might be sensible to blend youth and experience, but I actually hope that we ditch some of our experienced players and bring some more kids in. We do have leaders in the side like John Egan, Nelson, Loft, Cody etc already. The kids seem to have more desire to play and aren't the ones letting the club down

Up the Gills! Well said love the name by the way Danny Westwood what a player, wonder goal v Reading away! It seems to me that the split on this board is a age thing I remember the mid 70 's to the mid 80's when each match you had some kind of hope , Billy Hughes wonder strike against the giants of Sheffield Wednesday, what a memory! Nowadays especially under Taylor there is no hope there. I cannot forget this season's match against Newcastle in the league cup which we treated like a friendly, nearly 40 years ago I remember standing in the Rainham end as a 14/15 year old getting extremely excited when Mark Weatherly equalised against the same opposition in a game we eventually lost! Arsenal are having the same with Wenger oldies against him youngsters happy with what ever the outcome! Maybe sadly over the years expectations have dwindled, but I want us to go into every game with a scent if victory not the attitude of Taylor which is let's try not to lose the game!!

Same position as we were in last season then 888, only with a younger squad and without all those older players the majority of fans wanted to see the back of. Dont disagree a few new signings would be nice though as long as we get rid of some of the dead wood.

Mustn't leave the Elsey Rocket at Brentford (I think) out of the list of wonder strikes.

Mustn't leave the Elsey Rocket at Brentford (I think) out of the list of wonder strikes. Sadly I missed that one although I saw his two at Bristol City in a 3-3 draw and also his exceptional strike against Swindon in the playoff final 2nd leg! I have never seen us win at Swindon sadly along with Walsall they are one of our bogey away grounds!

When (not if) IMO, we go down, I wonder how many of yous will still be backing the youngsters who clearly are not up to scratch. Obviously it's not just down to the youngsters but if they are going to form the majority of the team then it's ultimately down to them

Lets face facts Taylor has not won many fans over his subs often seem odd.But he has done the hardest thing to do in football management he has looked long term. Taylor is the man who Scally trusted with this job and I see no reason why fans should attack a manager who at least will leave us better off player wise than when he arrived.Yes we are still at risk of going down but that risk would have been there had we gone with a senior squad this season. I quite like the look of Pritchard on Sunday he played some really good passes.Ehmer was playing out of position on the right of the 3 centre backs but for me had a good game.Lennon looked solid.Cody was starting to show some sharpness. Dickenson bit by bit is really starting to impress. McGlashan at least looks hungry for action. It is hard to judge against the best side in this league. We have a long way to go to get close but we can improve. As others have said it is the senior pro's that are letting the side down.I am not sure if I want more youngsters or not but Taylor has already said he wants 5 or 6 to leave we clearly need a couple of full/wing backs and at least one forward. As long as Dack is not out long term I feel we have enough in midfield.

Statoblue......The quality of Peter Taylors squad is poor...its reflected in the results and position in the league. The midfield is poor doughty. Loft. Hess.lingazi and pritchard are weak players and if they were good we would be dominating games more because the centre of the park is vitally important in dictating matches and tempo. Something we are clearly lacking.

888, that post about our midfield is almost comical. Doughty poor? What games have you been watching? Loft hasn't shone yet, but was good enough to be port vale's captain and player of the year 3 out of 4 years. I've said it before, but being injured in pre season has a big influence on a player. He's also the type of experienced player you want to sign? Pritchard started to show what he's about against Bristol and I've seen signs before. His range of passing is excellent and he's not afraid to tackle. Give him a run in the side (assuming he stays fit) and he will be fine. Hess jr hasn't had a great season, but everyone was talking him up as the next big thing a year ago. Linganzi, I think very few want him to remain. An injury hit year and a half and a poor poor Allen signing.

Agree stato and Hess. As to relegation we would have been down with the squad from last year, especially as a number of the aged group were constantly injured.
