Gillingham have still he to announce a list of those players we are letting go i was wondering if we were awaiting other local teams announcement before finalizing ours .IE there is very little point in Lovell releasing a player if he is unlikely to be able to get someone better in . Millwall have just announced there list . www.millwallfc.co.uk/news/2018/may/millwall-announce-retained-list/There maybe a player or two that could fit the bill there clearly location would not be a stumbling block . Harry Toffolo was the one who caught my eye .A left back with England youth experience . Harry Smith has had issues similar to Billy Knott so that probably rules him out . Kris Twardek could be a option as he is partly the same nationality as Holy .A winger with extra width needed he could be available to move to Kent .

I spoke to Lovell at that fun day thing and, I know he was being diplomatic, but he said he wants to keep everyone. I do hope this isn't true! I heard Byrne has been offered quite a bit more by Newport. I agree with the above that I think Gills will try and get a couple of local deals done before the retained list is announced but as usual it will come down to money so I could see both Martin and Wagstaff leaving as they must be on decent money to try and save some pounds.

One possibly is that almost everyone will be offered some sort of deal .IE However much Lovell feels they are worth to him .But expect a few of a lot to leave for better money elsewhere .It could be those that have had such offers may only have until the closing date of announcing the released players to agree or walk away .A lot are worth keeping for the right deal .The players in general put in a lot of effort last season for him .I can see Steve Lovell giving out tight deals to try to get them to stay but on his terms .

All interesting and not all that surprising. I can see Steve trying to keep players that the rest of us know aren't good enough or don't put the effort in. Better the devil you know because the attitude of some young people quite frankly stinks.
I wish he would be ruthless enough to get rid and make a fresh start. But of course it does come down to money, and better not to rock the money boat. With all this in mind I don't believe for one minute Scally's insistence today that the playing budget is 2.5 Million. With the amount of money we have coming in and other anecdotal evidence, I simply don't believe it. But then Scally would work on the same lines as the Establishment, if you repeat some nonsense often enough and pretend it's reasonable, the majority of the Proletariat will believe it.

A player who would seem to be a good fit however could well move higher up is Walsall's Erhun Oztumer. A clever little player who is said to be talking to other clubs .Born in Greenwich may give us outside chance .He would seem to be ideal foil for Eaves but not sure the budget would stretch that far .

Agree I think he ran the show at priest field in the game last season , maybe wrong.

martin definitely has to be kept...i think he has shown his quality and confident he will have a decent 2018-19 season, i am not really excited about next campaign at the moment, the only positives at gillingham is our manager lovell and a handful of players, everything else about our club is negative and that stems from our chairman.

If he retained the current squad can you imagine the attendances at Priestfield next season?

With a couple of exceptions, retaining the players makes sense. What we need is more strength in depth and that requires more money, which is unlikely.

A little more depth can be provided by young players if they step up .The fact is one or two bits of real quality can transform a team at our level .Jack Payne spell at Oxford is a example of this in action .Without him they were a poor side .I would be happy to keep a lot of the players we have had this season if we could afford to bring in a few bits of quality .I would even in favour of trying to get most at the right price .

It’ll be interesting to see who we retain and who we let go.
Like others I think there will be some players who are/we’re on a larger wage (mainly signed by JED) that will go because we will want to reduce their wages.
I think Steve will also need to be ruthless when it comes to those with a bad history of injuries, I don’t mean if a player has one bad injury that leaves them out for a while, but more the players who are constantly out with knee or ankle problems.
As for whether we have the funds to bring some talent in, I guess that will depend on who we release (freeing up their wages), whether any offers come in for any players (unlikely), and whether Scally finds a bit of cash down the back of the sofa to give Steve a bit extra to play with.
I personally think football staff budget of 2.5million isn’t beyond the realms of believability. That would cover a lot of things, all players, staff, transport and hotels for away games, other things like rent on beechings cross etc.
Then there will be other expenses incurred in the previous season which still need to be paid for. For example if there is an unexpected bill that means you go over the budget for 1 season, the amount you go over would likely be deducted from the budget for the next season.
I already have had my season ticket renewed, and while I don’t think we’re going to set the league on fire next season, I’m hoping that we can at least consolidate and get a nice comfortable finish maybe towards to top of the middle of the table.

Chalton have just announced their list with one or two young professionals who could make the grade with other sides Jordan Beeney Matt Carter Archie Edwards Brandon Hanlan Louis-Michel Yamfam
Archie (a left back)and Louis-Michel (winger /striker they bought from Stevenage )possibly the pick of them .But with Gills having so many young professionals I can't see much likelihood of any arrivals from the valley this time around.

Well now on the OS and shows how tight finances will be next season with I’m guessing wagstaff and Martin going and being the biggest earners. If a few don’t resign then a lot of new signings will be required with really only 7 first teamers under contract.
